How the Combined Course Works

Vantage is Award Finalist: Innovative TEFL / Teach Abroad Program

Vantage TEFL is 2021 GoAbroad Finalist

As a leading resource for overseas training, GoAbroad is pleased to present the annual awards recognizing innovation in international education.

The winners are selected by a prestigious group of international educators known as the GoAbroad Innovations Academy Awards board.

This award recognizes Vantage as an innovative TEFL that provides a unique opportunity for learning and cultural engagement.

The evaluation was focused on successful program development, execution, popularity, as well as overall quality and creativity in virtual/online or hybrid programming.

The Best of Both Worlds

Vantage TEFL Certification has partnered with iTTT (International TEFL and TESOL Training)—the industry leader in online TEFL training to provide a unique hybrid TEFL certification course.

Our Hybrid Combined Course offers the flexibility of online training combined with observed teaching practices with real students.

Vantage is ranked #1 in gooverseas.com’s The 9 Best Online TEFL Courses.

You'll study the coursebook online. Then you'll get real practice teaching

in a live classroom where you'll develop your teaching skill set.

This class is ideal for those who are currently working or otherwise cannot afford the time to attend a four-week course.

You need to complete the online portion of the course first. Then you're ready to do your observed teaching practices with

non-English speaking students in a real Thai classroom.

The Combined Course tuition is US$1,295.

What's Online?

The online part of the course is divided into two main areas—teaching techniques and language awareness.

The teaching component provides details on the methodologies and techniques required by teachers in the classroom while the language awareness component gives a solid foundation course in English grammar.

The online course consists of 20 units (hours) followed by a summative task. You’ll take a quiz after each unit before moving on to the next section.

You’ll have six months to work through the entire course at a pace the suits your requirements.

How much time will you need? Most people take one to three months, but the online course can be completed in ten to fifteen days if you can work at it full time.

You need to complete the online course first; then you're ready to do the observed teaching practices.

What's Offline?

This part of the combined course is where you will do what Vantage calls the practicum or observed teaching practices.

This is where you'll put the theory you've learned online into practice. This is where knowledge becomes skill.

You’ll teach real students in live classes where you can put your new knowledge into practice. When each session is completed, valuable feedback is provided by the course trainers.

Can't Come to Bangkok?

You can now do the Phase Two practicum in two ways. You can teach a traditional face-to-face session in a classroom.

Or you teach your six observed teaching practices (OTPs) virtually in real-time via Zoom where you will fully interact with the trainers and fellow students. Learn how here.

Knowing Does Not Make You Skilled

Knowledge is information. It's acquired through sensory input: reading, watching and listening. Knowledge refers to factual information and theoretical concepts.

Skills, however, refer to the ability to apply knowledge to specific situations. Skills are developed through practice, through a combination of sensory input and output.

To make it simple, knowledge is theoretical and skills are practical.

You can know all the rules of a sport, know its key procedures and when to use them, know all the statistics, but this only makes you knowledgeable about the sport; it does not make you any good at it. To become skilled at a sport you must play it—improving your skills through practice

If you want to be a good English teacher, you will need to immerse yourself in an actual classroom with real non-English speaking students to see how they respond to your teaching.

You'll need professional feedback from a coach who has years of classroom experience and expertise as there are limits to how useful your own internal reflection is in understanding your personal skill development.

The observed teaching practices are a crucial ingredient in developing the skill set to become a professional teacher—the best you can be.

That’s what we do in our TEFL practicum.  We’re transforming the knowledge gained from the course into the teaching skills you will need to be successful in the classroom.

Modular Online TEFL Programs

Both our Virtual Vantage and the Combined Course use the same online course book—20 units and a summative task—so Phase One is the same for both courses. And they are both fully accredited TEFL courses.

The difference is the Observed Teaching Practices (OTPs) in Phase Two of the course

In the Combined Course you’ll teach in a real bricks & mortar school and in Virtual Vantage, you’ll teach students online in real time.

Since the award-winning Phase One course is the same in both programs, some  trainees start studying the course book first and will decide later how to do their OTPs. In other words, whether to complete the TEFL training though the Combined Course or through Virtual Vantage.

You can begin the Phase One part of either course when you make your deposit of US$495.
